This porous MOF is nominally constituted by iron building units connecting by BTC (BTC: 1,3,5-Benzentricarboxylicacid) linkers. Although, there is another MOF with the same composition known as MIL-100(Fe), but the exact crystal structure of commercial Fe-BTC is known to be different to that of highly crystalline MIL-100(Fe). The structure of Fe-BTC remains unknown due to its poor crystallinity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Powder X-ray diffraction measurements from Fe-BTC show broad scattering, which is characteristic of a semi-crystalline (containing boat nanocrystalline and amorphous domains) structure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fe-BTC is one the most promising metal-organic frameworks, due to its porous structure (800 m<sup>2<\/sup>\/g) and relatively high chemical stability, especially against air, water and organic solvents. This MOF shows coordinatively unsaturated metal sites that can act as a highly active catalyst for Lewis acid reactions such as acetalization of aldehydes and aldol condensation It can also be used for gas adsorption and separation.
