introduction Metal-organic framework MIL-88A(Fe)
MIL-88A(Fe) is a non-toxic metal-organic framework built up from iron metal ions and fumaric acid linkers, both naturally occurring in the body. This iron-based MOF exhibits excellent chemical/water stability and a flexible framework (change in unite cell volume above 80%). This large swelling effect is very favorable for mass transfer in photocatalytic reactions. Furthermore, this MOF contains coordinatively unsaturated iron sites (open metal sites), so it can be an excellent candidate for photocatalyst applications.
MIL88-A(Fe) is a suitable candidate for biomedical and drug delivery due to its low toxicity and excellent biocompatibility.
The BET surface area of MIL-88A(Fe) was 6 m2/g, such a low surface area can be due to that the structure of MIL-88A(Fe) is flexible and the its pores might be closed during the degassing process and not accessible to N2 adsorption.
